DAY 7 - 08/10/2017

October 8 26 to 28°

It was a very peaceful and relaxing morning as we were up at 07:00, showered and dressed for breakfast at 8:30 breakfast - we had breakfast outside at the front of our apartment on the table and benches on the grass.

We took a short walk over the road to the sea and from here we looked over the cliffs edge. it was beautiful with the houses overhanging the cliffs and the morning breeze made it a perfect way to wake up in the morning...

Before we left Cayucos we stopped at the local store for water and ice also for some cookies and snacks for the trip

We headed north up Highway one and we planned to go as far as we could as the landslide stopped at Ragged Point - here the road was closed until next summer with no way through...

On the way we made a short stop for petrol and to look at the scarecrow festival in Cambria.

We also stopped to see the Elephant seals (a few miles north from Hearst Castle)

We drove until the road was blocked / closed and at this point we turned back round and stopped at Ragged Point to have some food.

Now heading back to south we had to get the 46 to then to the 101
Maj-Britt took control of the car for the first time to see how it was and she has to drive later in the trip when I have the motorbike.

The short part of Highway one that we did see was really nice and just how I thought it would be with narrow winding roads on the cliffs edge overlooking the sea . It would have been great to see and drive more of this road but due to the landslide and the new bridge not been completed we had to re-root around using the 101

The route 46 through the mountains to the 101 this was really quite a nice and peaceful route with rolling hills/mountains with the vineyards on the way...

The 101 was an open flat plane with mountains of both sides - this is where there were a lot of vineyards from one side of the mountains to the other it was the most vineyards and grapes that we had ever seen...

Due to the time we had to make our way straight to the next stopover in Monterey
Here we have booked a motel 6 - very basic room as I knew we would arrive late and leave early...
We got there just-in-time (18:00) for the kids to jump into the ice cold mini pool before a shower and then into the town for some food. We drove down to Fishermans wharf - we went to a British/London pub for some food.

Tomorrow before we move North to San Francisco but I hope that we can go back a little on Highway 1 to see some of the path north of big sur or even Pebble Beach with the 17 mile drive because we have missed the middle section of Highway 1.
we will have to wait and see how we feel tomorrow...

The kids have been good the last two days with the driving their iPads have kept them entertained enough to stop them from being too bored

The car is a perfect size for all the bags and Isabella’s chair and also with lots of room for both the kids and us. This makes it a little easier when they need room to relax.
